Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Resources
In 2020, we were impacted not only by COVID-19 but also by an increased awareness of social inequities. In the wake of ensuing massive civil unrest following the death of George Floyd, Tau Beta Pi released a statement to members in June 2020 and also invited them to attend listening sessions that would offer a safe space for members to share their stories and experiences. Tau Beta Pi upheld that commitment by holding its first facilitated Conversations on Race and Equity sessions in December. A second set of listening sessions was held on March 23 and 25. We plan to continue holding discussions and establish an enduring program that will serve as a vehicle to increase awareness of social and racial inequities and to explore ways that TBP can work to address any disparity that exists in the engineering profession.
In 2021, the Executive Council chartered a task force to investigate the need for a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee within Tau Beta Pi. The task force gathered information from the listening sessions, other alumni, and student chapters, which led to the TBP Executive Council chartering the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (2021). Please continue sharing your stories, resources, or thoughts with the committee.
This is a living page of resources on the topics of diversity, equity and inclusion. Initial articles were provided by the facilitators of the "listening sessions" and were used as references in the discussions. We are beginning to add additional resources, if you have suggestions for additional resources please
to the DEI Committee.
