Tau Beta Pi Constitution & Bylaws specifically restrict these scholarships to initiated members of the Tau Beta Pi Association on the date the scholarship is awarded. Tau Beta Pi membership records at TBP HQ provide the single source of proof of an applicant's membership status. (Back to Top)
- I am a junior/senior/graduate student/alumnus. Am I eligible to apply?
You must be a member of Tau Beta Pi and will be enrolled for full-time undergraduate study the next academic year. Students who will be enrolled for two semesters, three quarters, or two trimesters are eligible to apply for a $2,000 award. Students enrolled for one semester, two quarters, or one trimester are eligible to apply for a $1,000 award. (Back to Top)
- How do I acquire an application?
Members of Tau Beta Pi may apply by following the instructions found online. You will be asked to set up a username and password so your membership status can be confirmed. Be sure to update your mailing address by TBP HQ with your new contact information. The address on file should match the address you indicate as the preferred address in your application. - The links in the email you sent do not work and I cannot get the application. What should I do?
Most likely the links do not work because your email software wrapped the URL onto the next line and the browser does not recognize all the text as part of the URL. Try cutting and pasting the entire URL into the address window on the browser. If this does not work type the URL from the email into the address window. As a last resort email and explain the problem. (Back to Top)
- How will I know if you received my application and reference letters?
Save the username and password you set up to acquire your application. The status can be checked by logging back into your account at http://www.tbp.org/applications. (Back to Top)
- When is the application deadline?
The application must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. EDT April 1. The letters of recommendation must be submitted by

- Do I need an official transcript?
You can upload either an official or unofficial transcript. However, it should be current (as of this semester) and include collegiate coursework at all of your institutions. (Back to Top)

- May I apply for both a scholarship and a fellowship in the same academic year?
If you will graduate in the middle of the academic year (e.g. December) and will immediately begin graduate work, you are eligible to receive a $1,000 scholarship for your last term of undergraduate study. You can apply in subsequent years for a fellowship for your graduate work. (Back to Top)
- Who should write my letters of recommendation?
Your recommendations need to address the scholarship criteria. Suggestions are research mentors, faculty who know you outside of the classroom and can address your academic and leadership abilities and your participation in co-curricular activities, and supervisors in engineering-related experiences. Check the email addresses for your recommenders to be sure they are correct. If you have not submitted your application, you can resend a request for a letter of recommendation. If you have submitted your application, the Systems Administrator. (Back to Top)
- What is the Board looking for in a Tau Beta Pi Scholar?
- Scholarship (GPA, research, publications, honors, & awards) - 30 percent
- Promise of substantial achievement (educational, research, professional activities that have prepared you for your career; motivation; career goals; recommendations documenting activities, and potential for successful career) - 40 percent
