- Tau Beta Pi Headquarters has complied with state and local guidelines regarding in-person working arrangements put in place in March. The entire staff switched to a work-from-home operation in late March with only a limited number (1-2) people in the office at any given time to carry out essential business functions while ensuring social distancing guidelines were followed. Watch a short video tour of TBP HQ with Executive Director Gomulinski.
Knox County and the city of Knoxville have provided guidelines for re-opening of businesses as part of a multi-step process to return organizations to full operation. These guidelines allow for organizations to re-open operations beginning May 1. Beginning the week of May 4, Tau Beta Pi will begin the gradual process of having additional staff working in the office while adhering to the guidelines provided by the county and city. As a result, we expect to have 3-5 people working each day at Headquarters with the remaining staff working from home during May. As circumstances allow, additional staff will return to the office, but we do not anticipate everyone working in-person again until sometime in June or July. As we have done throughout this situation, we will continue to answer phones and email. We do anticipate addressing the backlog of chapter and member orders starting in May and will be shipping items based on the date the orders were received and the need to receive items in a timely manner.
- Tau Beta Pi members have been making videos about their quarantine experiences, many of which include encouraging messages to us about making it through these unusual times. See this week's video from Executive Councillor Mike Peterson (IA A '89) and your videos. We will post new videos each week and you can find them all on our TBP YouTube channel.
- Convention Update: At this time, we are still planning on holding the 2020 Convention
on October 22-24 in Atlanta, GA. For more information watch this video from TBP Executive
Director Curt Gomulinski.
- Tau Beta Pi HQ Closed: Local government in Knox County, TN, has extended the stay at home order through April 30. This impacts non-essential business such as Tau Beta Pi. We will still be answering and phone calls at 1-800-TAU-BETA. We will process donations and other mail as circumstances permit and items ordered through the store will be delayed. Please contact us if you have any questions. And above all, we hope that all is going well for you and that you stay healthy!
- Chapter Resources: To help chapters address the challenges around the country due to the COVID-19 crisis, Headquarters has prepared various tools to keep your chapters operating virtually. All resources are stored in the Chapter Resources Google Site. On this site, you can review the various documents, resources, recordings, and FAQ to assist you in holding a successful virtual initiation.
If you are looking for ideas to determine exemplary character in an online environment, need recommendations for conducting a virtual meeting, or want tools to conduct online voting, we have you covered! A group of volunteers developed some best practice documents which were discussed in the April 2 Chapter Chat and are available in the Documents section of the Google Site.
If you plan to hold a virtual initiation, complete the Online Initiation Ceremony Request Form. Access instructions will be distributed via email and text following conclusion of this form. Once your chapter registers for a virtual initiation, your chapter can opt to have Headquarters collect your initiation fees. After we update the site based on your form answers, you can use one of the below links to distribute to your initiates for fee payment.
- Initiation Fees (AL Alpha - KY Gamma)
- Initiation Fees (LA Alpha - ND Beta)
- Initiation Fees (OH Alpha - WY Alpha)
The quickest way to know that your initiates have paid their fees is to request that they forward their email receipt of payment to you immediately after payment. Headquarters will notify the chapters who has paid on a weekly basis, but receiving confirmation directly from the initiate will be much quicker. If the chapter charges an additional amount above the $55 national fee, the chapter portion will be credited on the next statement balance. If the chapter would like this amount disbursed via a check, submit a request to who will then distribute the money after collecting any needed information. We'll be formalizing this process throughout the month, but basically it will be a one time distribution after HQ has received all the fees and taken out the national fee of $55 per initiate.
