South Dakota Alpha wins G.I.G. Grant

Congratulations to South Dakota Alpha for winning a 2001 Greater Interest in Government Grant.  On March 10, the Executive Council approved the chapter's request for $750 to help sponsor the Youth Engineering Adventure (YEA), a program designed by South Dakota School of Mines and Technology to promote interest in math and science courses at the secondary school level.  This summer, YEA will give students between their sophomore and junior year the opportunity to tour engineering firms as well as receive hands-on experience building engineering projects.

As much as $750 may be awarded for a single or joint-chapter GIG project.  To date, 50 grants totaling $34,460 have been made to 27 chapters.  Send your 2001 GIG proposals to Executive Director J.D. Froula at headquarters in Knoxville, TN as soon as you are ready.  Proposals will be reviewed  by the Executive Council at their quarterly meetings.  The next E.C. meeting is scheduled for June 8, 2001.  Please contact headquarters if you have any questions.
