Tau Beta Pi To Receive "Record" Bequest
Scholarship Program to Benefit

The Tau Beta Pi Association will soon be the recipient of more than $3 million from the estate of Leroy Emmett Record, Kansas Alpha ’29. This gift marks the largest bequest ever received in the history of Tau Beta Pi. Mr. Record passed away on August 6, 2000. In keeping with his wishes, the Executive Council will use the gift to establish the L.R.Record Fund for Tau Beta Pi Record Scholarships, which will become a part of the Tau Beta Pi Scholarship Program. Because of this gift, the Association expects to eventually be able to expand the program by 100 additional scholarships. Douglas M. Green, Ph.D., president of the Executive Council expressed his gratitude, stating that "On behalf of the Executive Council and Tau Bates everywhere, I wish to thank the Leroy E. Record estate for this extraordinary gift. Mr. Record’s generosity will have a transformational impact on Tau Beta Pi’s nascent Scholarship Program."

Mr. Record was born on October 5, 1902. He graduated from the University of Kansas in 1929 with a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a vacuum tube engineer at General Electric for many years before moving on to Tektronix, where he retired. Mr. Record had been a very loyal and generous donor to Tau Beta Pi over the years, achieving membership in the Alpha giving club. We are overwhelmingly grateful, indeed, for this gift which came at such an opportune time . Many talented and committed engineering students will benefit for years to come by this gift.
