Immediately after the formal initiation, the new members were constituted a new chapter in the ceremony of installation conducted by Councillor Huggins. The ceremony included the formal election and installation of the chapter’s charter officers and advisors.
A gathering in the West Point Train Station at the South Dock along the frozen Hudson River preceded the banquet. Visitors joining the historic festivities included Chapter President Daniel J. D’Agostino, NY X ’07, and Matthew Krauss, NY X ’07.
President Greulich served as master of ceremonies and welcomed all initiates, visitors, and faculty.
Mr. Froula reviewed the history of the petitioning process and challenged the initiates to pursue excellence in all of their activities, to support the engineering profession, maintain impeccable ethics, and serve their alma mater, their nation, and fellow students.
Mr. Huggins welcomed New York Upsilon into the Association and challenged the initiates to become leaders in the engineering profession by being actively involved in Tau Beta Pi and adding to its rich traditions.
Ms. Pinkus, who had assisted cadet members of the local society in the chapter-formation process for several years, congratulated the new members, introduced the visiting chapter representatives and local alumni, and welcomed New York Upsilon into District 2.
COL Kip P. Nygren, Ph.D., professor and head of the department of civil and mechanical engineering, congratulated the initiates, welcomed the nine visitors, and stated his pride in having the new chapter on campus. He recognized the strong support of the chapter advisors and former cadet leaders of the local society and the excellent early leadership toward the establishment of New York Upsilon from Dr. A.
