Tau Bates Invited to Develop
"Millionaire" Exhibit Questions for 55th NCAR Meeting to be held
at Disney-MGM Studios
|
(Only 10
questions could = 1 Tau Beta Pi coffee mug)
September 12, 2001 - Because of
his respect for our Association's reputation for scholarship and
excellence, the program chair of the
55th National Conference on the Advancement of Research (NCAR) has asked
the members of Tau Beta Pi to contribute customized questions for the conference's
opening night event to be held at the new "Who Wants to be a
Millionaire - Play It!" attraction at Disney MGM-Studios Florida in
Orlando. NCAR 55 will be held November 28 - December 1, 2001 at The Disney Institute
in Orlando, Florida and is expected to attract more than 200 of the
nation's R&D leaders from industry, government, and academe. In
addition, as a designated service project of the Florida Delta Chapter,
students from the University of Central Florida will be invited to
participate in select activities during the conference such as the
"Millionaire" event.
This year's program
chair, Mr. Gregory A. Schuckman, (Director
of Federal Relations at the University of Central Florida), conceived of
the idea for a special Tau Beta Pi-inspired edition of
"Millionaire" to entertain the 500+ attendees expected to
participate in the game that evening. Having collaborated with Tau
Beta Pi in the past through his leadership and service to the American
Association of Engineering Societies, Mr. Schuckman approached Tau Beta Pi
Executive Director Jim Froula, and within weeks, Tau Bates began
responding to a call for questions. It is especially appropriate for
TBP to be involved with the NCAR as it was established by the founding
vice chair of the National Academy of Engineering, a prominent engineer
and Tau Bate, Eric A. Walker, MA Gamma '32, who convened the first NCAR at
his home institution of the Pennsylvania State University in
1947. This year's theme for the NCAR meeting is : "Beyond the
Odyssey: A New Research Endeavor."
As a supporter of NCAR 55 and to reward our
participation in the conference, Tau Beta Pi will receive
special recognition before the "Millionaire" event through a
video presentation about the Society. This video will follow a
keynote address on "Imagineering the Future of Research" by the
head of Disney Imagineering, Dr. Eric Haseltine, who should provide a nice
segue into the role that Tau Bates have played in 'imagineering the
future.' Several
successful Tau Bates, such as Kentucky Governor Paul Patton and Dr. Joseph
Bordogna, Deputy Director of the National Science Foundation, are
included in the program and many more are expected to be in
attendance. For more information about the Conference visit
www.ncar.org.
As
a gesture of thanks, the first ten members to submit at least 10 questions will
receive a Tau Beta Pi coffee mug.
There is still one mug left! (ALL
members submitting questions will be recognized in The Bent.)
