  • A new Executive Council to serve the 2006-10 term, was elected by the 2005 Convention in Salt Lake City. Two teams of candidates, the Four Corners Slate and the Foundation Slate, had been nominated earlier in the year to participate in the election. The Foundation Slate, nominated by the AZ G, FL A, FL D, and SD A chapters, decisively won the election held during the third business meeting of the Convention. Members of the Council-elect are Solange C. Dao, P.E., FL A ’95, Dr. Jonathan F. K. Earle, P.E., FL A ’65, Jason A. Huggins, P.E., FL A ’96, Norman Pih, TN A ’82, and Dr. Larry A. Simonson, P.E., SD A ’69. (Council-elect bios)

The Four Corners Slate comprised four members of the current Executive Council; Dr. Matthew W. Ohland, FL A ’96, Russell W. Pierce, WA A ’70, Ellen D. Styles, AL D ’85, and Dr. Dennis J. Tyner, MA E ’85, and District 10 Director Nila D. Bhakuni, OH K ’89.

Each slate delivered a ten-minute presentation at the second business meeting and fielded questions from members during the third business meeting. Both slates hosted receptions for interested members on both Thursday and Friday evenings.

The term of the present Council will expire in the fall of 2006, the year between election of the new group and its assumption of office being used to instruct the new Councillors in their duties. We wish the Council-elect members all the best as they prepare to implement their five strategic goals: 1) increase numbers of initiates; 2) enhance the effectiveness of Tau Beta Pi programs; 3) invest in the volunteers; 4) promote partnerships to showcase engineering career opportunities for K-12 students; and 5) increase financial resources by developing a major gifts plan
