Arm and Curtis Bequests Boost Scholarship and Fellowship ProgramsGenerous bequests received this spring from the estates of two members have made it possible to add an endowed fellowship and scholarship to our growing student award programs. In April 2007, the Association received a bequest of $58,500 from the estate of Dr. Richard A. Curtis, OH A ’64, who earned a B.S. in engineering science from Case Western Reserve University. He died in May 2006. With the proceeds of this bequest, the Executive Council established the Richard A. Curtis Scholarship Fund, and one or more endowed scholarships of $2,000 per year may be awarded in perpetuity in his name. The Association received additional bequests totaling $219,000 from the estates of David L. Arm, PA E ’30, and his widow, Rena Miller Arm. Mr. Arm earned undergraduate degrees in administrative engineering from Penn State and mechanical engineering from Lafayette College, where he was initiated into Tau Beta Pi in 1931. He later earned a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and taught the subject at Purdue University. The Executive Council established the David L. Arm Fellowship Fund to earn income for granting fellowships to Tau Beta Pi graduate students in perpetuity. The first award of $10,000 will be given during 2008. Tau Beta Pi is fortunate not only to receive gifts of this magnitude from loyal members, but also to be able to use the funds to support the education of talented and deserving engineering students. Because of Dr. Curtis, the Arms, and others who demonstrate their commitment to the future of engineering, Tau Beta Pi will continue to be able to assist more students than any other engineering society. If you have included Tau Beta Pi in your will, we thank you and would like to recognize you as a member of the Heritage Society. Send an email to HeritageSociety@tbp.org and we will return information on membership; or write to us at P.O. Box 2697, Knoxville, TN 37901-2697; or phone 865/546-4578.
