The Executive Council met in Sacramento, CA, on October 22, 2008.

The Council enthusiastically voted Tau Beta Pi Resolutions of Appreciation to a retiring advisor of the collegiate chapters and to retiring District 7 Director Abdou A. Ayoub, OH L ’04, and appointed Ellie R. Armstrong, OH Z ’01, as District 7 Director for a term ending in June 2011.

The Council approved the inspection reports of the visits to petitioning groups at Boise State University and Western Kentucky University; those petitions will be presented at the 2009 Convention.

Executive Director J.D. Froula reviewed the final program and logistical details of the 2008 Convention. The Council agreed to test an electronic-voting system. President L.A. Simonson reviewed his President's Report.

President Simonson reported on receptions during the previous week with alumni in Novato, Palo Alto, and Cupertino, CA. Councillor F.K. Earle reviewed progress made toward the Tau Beta Pi K-12 MindSET Program and presented frequently asked questions to be posted on the website, and the Council approved the fund document description for the K-12 MindSET Fund.

Mr. Froula reported on the status of various information-technology improvements and the 2008 Alumnus Giving Program. The report of the auditor and the auditor's management letter were reviewed and given careful consideration. The Council prioritized potential appointees to the 2008-09 Financial Review Committee, allocated a $1,000 bequest to the MindSET K-12 Fund, and reviewed the new Tau Beta Pi Donor Opportunities flyer prepared by Headquarters staff.

The Council reviewed and discussed practices for the GIG Program and adjusted the current deadline to November 30, 2008, after which date the deadline will be abolished. Council discussed the Scholarship Program and decided to publish biographies and photographs of future Scholars only on the web.

The Council approved modifications to the Tau Beta Pi Health Insurance Plan, salary adjustments for the Assistant Secretary and the Executive Director, and amended the Plan documents for Tau Beta Pi Retirement Plans 001 & 002 for the Pension Protection Act of 2006.
