The Executive Council met in Dearborn, MI, on October 10, 2007.

The Council enthusiastically voted one Tau Beta Pi Resolution of Appreciation for a retiring advisor of the collegiate chapters and appointed Alex J. Rovnan, PA B ’04, as District 3 Director for a term ending in June 2010.

Councillor Jonathan F.K. Earle reviewed progress made toward the Tau Beta Pi National K-12 Math & Science Initiative. The Council accepted a structure comprising four geographical regions and discussed the need for implementation and operating plans, priorities, and a timeline.

President Simonson reported on the meeting of the Financial Development Committee in Knoxville, TN, on September 29, 2007.

Executive Director J.D. Froula reviewed the final program and logistical details of the 2007 Convention. The Council considered an electronic-voting system that could be used for two days at the Convention but decided that costs were prohibitive. President L.A. Simonson reviewed his President’s Report for 2006-07. The Council reviewed final plans for the meeting of National Officials on October 11, 2007.

Mr. Froula reported on the status of a $177,000 Charitable Gift Annuity, the 2007 Alumnus Giving Program, and the status of various information-technology improvements; the report of the auditor and the auditor’s management letter were reviewed and given careful consideration. Mr. Froula said that chapters will be required to file an electronic form 990-N to the IRS on the Internet beginning in 2008.

The Council approved policies and guidelines for gifts, including charitable gift annuities, and appointed Councillor N. Pih, Mr. Froula, and Director of Communications and Development P.B. McDaniel as members of the new Gift Acceptance Committee.

The Council reviewed and discussed policies and practices for the Fellowship and Scholarship Programs and discussed a proposed named scholarship. The Council reviewed the status of producing a new Tau Beta Pi Chapter CD-ROM. The Council reviewed the new member-look-up feature and decided to place it on the main website. The Council discussed the secrecy of the ritual and the privacy of the motto.

The Council approved modifications to the Tau Beta Pi Health Insurance Plan, a Disaster and Business Continuity Plan, and salary adjustments for the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer and the Executive Director.
