The Executive Council met in Woodside, CA, on August 12, 2006.
The Council enthusiastically voted four Tau Beta Pi Resolutions of Appreciation and seven Tau Beta Pi Superior Service Awards for retiring advisors of the collegiate chapters.
A project grant under the Greater Interest in Government Program was given to the Alabama Epsilon Chapter, and the local project for which a cash award was made will be reported in a later issue of T HE B ENT .
The Council reviewed a preliminary petition for a new collegiate chapter from a local engineering honor society in Idaho, but determined that the group is not ready for an inspection visit.
The Council reviewed the Membership Study Report for 2005-06 indicating that a significant number of engineering students continue to seem uninterested in Tau Beta Pi membership.
The Council appointed Dee Anne Stirm, AL E ’06, as District 6 Director for 2006-09 and voted a Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Service Award to retiring District 7 Director Robert C. Rogers, P.E. The Council appointed as Engineering Futures Facilitators for 2006-09: Scott E. Fable, CA T ’96; Bradley E. Kabes, MN B ’06; and Jeffrey A. Sawyer, CA T ’05. The Council modified the charter of the Engineering Futures Planning Committee and appointed Cheryl Cheng, MI G ’00, to the committee to a term ending in June 2008. Abdou A. Ayoub, OH L ’04, was appointed to the ICE Committee for a term ending in June 2007.
The Council reviewed arrangements for the October 5 meeting of National Officers and Directors and reviewed and modified plans for the 2006 Tau Beta Pi Convention to be held in Denver, CO, on October 5-7.
Executive Director J.D. Froula reported on the status of the 2006 Alumni Giving Program and the status of various information-technology improvements; his fourth quarter report of the fiscal year had been sent to the Council and was accepted, along with his annual report. The Council discussed with the Council-elect practices for evaluating the Executive Director/Secretary Treasurer’s performance.
The Council approved an agreement with SunTrust Education Loans to provide members and their families with exclusive discounts under its student-loan consolidation program.
The Council discussed the forthcoming 125 th anniversary of the Association in 2010.
