The Executive Council met in Knoxville, TN, on December 3, 2005 . 

The Council enthusiastically voted one TBP Resolution of Appreciation to a retiring advisor of the collegiate chapters and appointed J.P. Blackford, DC G ’95 , as District 4 Director. Councillor Dennis J. Tyner was appointed installing deputy for the January 28 installation of the New Jersey Epsilon Chapter at Rowan University.

The 2005 Convention held in October in Salt Lake City, UT, was reviewed and judged to have been successful. The Council reviewed recommendations presented during the annual meeting and adjusted plans for the 2006 Convention to be held in Denver, CO, on October 5-7.

The schedule of Spring Conferences was reviewed, and assignments were made for national-officer representation at all 16 events. District Directors S.L. Forkner, S.E. Fable, and E.P. Gorzkowski were appointed to the Laureate Selection Committee. District Directors J.C. Hill, T.E. Schwaller, and R.P. King were appointed to the TBP Distinguished Alumnus Selection Committee and the McDonald Mentoring Award Selection Committee.

Dr. Nino A. Masnari, MI G ’58, and Dr. Lewis F. Brown, SD B ’84, were appointed to the National Outstanding Advisor Selection Committee for terms ending in 2007 and 2008, respectively [contingent upon acceptance].

Executive Director J.D. Froula reported on the status of the 2005 Alumni Giving Program and the various information-technology improvements; his first-quarter financial report of the fiscal year had been sent to the Council and was accepted. The Council established the E.P. Hanley ( IL B ’42 ) Fellowship Fund as a result of a significant bequest. A bequest of $2,000 was received from the estate of Mary A. Quigley; the proceeds will be used for a Quigley Scholarship in memory of John J. Quigley, PA Z ’58 .

The Council made modifications to the TBP Health Insurance Plan. The Council reviewed a report indicating various ratios of life subscribers to T HE B ENT by class year and by life-subscription costs.

Preliminary plans were made for a joint-meeting with the Executive Council-elect on June 1, 2006. The Council approved a partnership with the Princeton Review as a member benefit to provide TBP members and families with significant discounts for its online or classroom courses (GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, SAT, or ACT).

The Council discussed means to assist the Virginia Beta Chapter with its plans for a special Hurricane Katrina relief project, reviewed its strategic plan, dropped Tau Beta Pi’s affiliation with JETS, discussed possible affiliation with the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies, and discussed a preliminary proposal to name a TBP Engineering Achievement of the Year.
