The Executive Council met in Orlando, FL, on October 6, 2004.

The Council enthusiastically voted two TBP Superior Service Awards and six TBP Resolutions of Appreciation to retiring advisors of the collegiate chapters and voted Distinguished Service Awards to retiring District Directors Francisco E. Moreno and Dr. Eddie R. Fowler.

The Council appointed Curt G. Campbell, TX B ’03, as District 5 Director and appointed Peter W. Gleason, MA D ’02, Julia M. Nolan, CA L ’03, and Terri A. Perrino, OH M ’86, as Engineering Futures Facilitators to terms ending June 2007. J.P. Blackford, DC G ’95, was appointed to the Engineering Futures Planning Committee to a term ending June 2005.

The Council reviewed the inspection report of the visit to a petitioning group at Rowan University; that petition will be presented to the 2005 Convention.

A program grant and cash award under the Greater Interest in Government Program were given to Iowa Alpha and the local project will be reported in a later issue of THE BENT. The Council reviewed final plans for the meeting of National Officials on October 7, 2004, and named Burlington, VT, as the site of the June 4, 2005, meeting of National Officials. Executive Director J.D. Froula reviewed the final program and logistical details of the 2004 Convention. President M.W. Ohland reviewed his President’s Report for 2003-04. The Council decided to invite Steven D. Bechtel Jr. to the 2005 Convention to present a keynote speech, and the Council reviewed the status of corporate and graduate-school sponsorship of the Convention.

Mr. Froula reported on the status of the 2004 Alumni Giving Program and the status of various information-technology improvements; the report of the auditor was reviewed and given careful consideration. The Council continued a review of recommendations from the 1998-2003 Financial Review Committee. Councillor Russell W. Pierce reported on the meeting of the Financial Development Committee in Knoxville, TN, on September 25, 2004.

The Council approved four new policies: (1) TBP will sponsor a reception at the ASEE annual meeting; (2) TBP will participate in National Engineers Week as a contributing society at a cost of $1,000 annually; (3) TBP will sponsor six $1,000 awards annually in the Society of Automotive Engineers scholarship programs; and (4) TBP will pay for one extra banquet ticket for the Distinguished Alumnus and National Outstanding Advisor and up to two tickets for each Laureate at the Convention Awards Banquet.

Vice President E.D. Styles reported on the status of the TBP National Project—The Bicycle Project. President Ohland reported on the National Academy of Engineering Convocation in Washington, DC, on May 3-4, 2004. Mr. Froula was named as representative to the Eta Kappa Nu centennial celebration in Champaign-Urbana, IL, on October 23, 2004.
