The Council enthusiastically voted a Tau Beta Pi Superior Service Award to a retiring advisor of a collegiate chapter. Executive Director J.D. Froula reported on the 2001 Alumni Giving Program; his second-quarter financial report of the fiscal year had been sent to the Council and was accepted. The Council reviewed the status of the incomplete chapter balloting to ratify two constitutional amendments from the 2001 Convention.

Curtis D. Gomulinski, MI E '01, and Edward P. Gorzkowski, PA A '99, were appointed as District 7 and District 3 Directors, respectively, for terms ending in June 2005. Reports of two recent District conferences were presented. Preliminary plans were made for the June 8 meeting of National Officials in Northbrook, IL.

Dr. Henry J. Chaya, NY X '75, was re-appointed to the Fellowship Board for a term ending July 31, 2005.

A project grant under the Greater Interest in Government Program was given to the Maryland Beta Chapter, and the local project, for which a cash award was made, is reported in this issue of THE BENT. An Executive Council Recognition Commendation was given to a chapter for its outstanding work in improving its membership process.

Sponsorship of six TBP-SAE Scholarships for 2003 at $1,000 each was approved.
The Council enthusiastically voted TBP Distinguished Service Awards to retiring District 7 Director Heather E. Havens-Beardsley, CA M '95, and District 16 Director Charles H. Hanskat, FL A '76, P.E.

The price of the initiation kit was raised by $50 to exceed slightly the cost of parts and shipping.

Director of Engineering Futures Russell W. Pierce reported on the status of the TBP Engineering Futures Program.

Plans were made for the pre-Convention issues forum to be led by Councillor Jerry A. Atkins. The Council reviewed proposed business for the 2002 Convention and appointed Councillor George D. Peterson to the focus group on curriculum-eligibility. The Council will recommend that the Distinguished Alumnus Award be continued at the discretion of the Executive Council. A proposal from the Editor to publish THE BULLETIN only in an electronic version was rejected.

The 2001-02 budget was amended in response to a large reduction in trust revenue. The Council noted a large bequest from the estate of Allen R. Orr, TX B '50, and named a 2002 Orr Scholarship. The salary schedule for the Headquarters staff was modified in accordance with merit policy and the cost-of-living index.

Mr. Froula reported on his participation in the February CESSE meeting in Tucson, AZ. The Council approved participation in the 150th anniversary of the ASCE on May 7 in Washington, DC.

Preliminary plans were made to develop a proposal for a TBP recruiting listserve to permit contacts between corporate recruiters and student members.

The Council decided to create a unique charter-membership certificate for eminent-engineer initiates.

The Council enthusiastically applauded the new Tau Beta Pi chapter video and approved the design of the Heritage Society Brochure for planned giving. A request-for-proposal to evaluate the Association's image was approved, and the status of selected chapter surveys on membership election/initiation performance was received.
