The Council enthusiastically voted a Tau Beta Pi Resolution of Appreciation and two Special Service awards to three retiring advisors of the collegiate chapters.
Executive Director J.D. Froula reported on the status of the 2001 Alumni Giving Program; his first-quarter financial report of the fiscal year had been sent to the Council and was accepted.
The 2001 Convention held in October in Columbus, OH, was reviewed and judged to have been successful. In compliance with the 1981 Convention procedure for site choices, the joint invitation of Florida Alpha/Delta to host the 2004 meeting in Orlando was reviewed, and additional information was requested. The Council reviewed recommendations presented during the annual meeting and adjusted plans for the 2002 Convention to be held in Detroit, MI, on October 3-5. The Council added a two-hour pre-Convention forum on issues to the 2002 schedule.
The schedule of Spring conferences was reviewed, and assignments were
made for national-officer representation at all 16 events. Jeffrey G.
Dabling, UT B '00, was appointed as a District 13 Director for a term
ending in June 2004.
District Directors J.J. Hanby, E.L. Tezak, and L.C. Pawlak were appointed
to the Tau Beta Pi Distinguished Alumnus Selection Committee. District
Directors M.D. Malmstrom, D.A. Kamat, and E.A. Stephan were appointed
to the Laureate Selection Committee. S.M. Deckter, NY T '01, and K.S.
Wilberg, CT B '95, were appointed as Engineering Futures Facilitators
to terms ending in June 2004. S.V. Eckersall, CA I '96, C.J. Harrison,
TN A '93, and N.P. Pih, TN A '82, were appointed to the Engineering Futures
Planning Committee.
Dr. Pramod P. Khargonekar, FL A '81, was appointed for a three-year term to the dean's selection committee for the National Outstanding Advisor Award; Dr. Timothy J. Greene, OK G '75, was named Chair for the 2002 program.
Vice President E.J. D'Avignon was appointed as installing deputy for the
January 26 installation of the Missouri Delta Chapter, President D.M.
Green was appointed for the February 9 installation of the Oregon Gamma
Chapter, Councillor C.P. Rice for the February 23 installation of the
New Hampshire Beta Chapter, and Councillor J.A. Atkins for the March 2
installation of the Texas Mu Chapter.
A project grant under the Greater Interest in Government Program was given
to Maryland Delta, and the local project for which a cash award was made
will be reported in a later issue of THE BENT. A second proposal was denied.
Preliminary plans were made for a joint-meeting with the Executive Council-elect in March. The Council interpreted the Tau Beta Pi Travel Policy and approved two expense reports from national officials. The Council reviewed the status of signed Conflict of Interest documents from national officials.
Director of Communications and Development P.B. McDaniel reported on the status of a project to update the Tau Beta Pi Chapter Video/CD. She reviewed the status of selected chapter surveys on membership election/initiation performance and the status of the Heritage Society brochure for planned giving.
