The Council reviewed the timing and logistics for the presentation of new membership invitation materials both during and after the Convention; the announcement date is October 7.

The Council increased the number of Scholarships to be awarded in 2000 from nine to 11, reviewed the budget, and approved the second Tau Beta Pi-Soderberg Scholarship. Mr. Froula summarized his Secretary-Treasurer's Report for 1998-99. The Council reviewed the draft report of the auditor and his comments on the final report from the 1993-98 Financial Review Committee. The Council decided to prepare a new performance review questionnaire to be used in 2000. The Council discussed national fund raising and the Alumni Giving Program and reviewed data showing the relationship between BENT subscription costs and numbers of new life subscriptions sold.

A request to modify the Tau Beta Pi Employee Retirement Plan was discussed.

Andrea Pinkus, NY D '97, and Donna R. H. Riggs, TN A '88, were appointed as Engineering Futures Facilitators for terms ending on June 30, 2002.

The Council made plans to send letters to approximately 20,000 high-achieving students in the PSAT math examinations to raise their interests in engineering as a career choice and to create name recognition for Tau Beta Pi. The project will be jointly conducted with the ASEE and will involve a designated website that can track interest generated by the letter.
