Time Magazine 'Person of the Year'

In 1927, TIME magazine began selecting a "man of the year" or "woman of the year"—the individual or group who has most influenced events in our world during the year. The name of the honor was changed to person of the year in 1999. Tau Beta Pi alumni among this select international group include:
1960 C. Stark Draper, Massachussetts Beta '22 aeronautical engineer; invented gyroscopic apparatus and inertial guidance systems
1960 Donald A. Glaser, Ohio Alpha '46 invented the liquid-hydrogen bubble chamber to study atomic particles; won Nobel prize
1960 Linus C. Pauling, Oregon Alpha '22 discovered molecular bonding force; won two Nobel prizes
1960 William B. Shockley, California Beta '32 co-invented transistor; won Nobel prize
1960 James A. Van Allen, Iowa Beta '35 astronomer; discovered (Van Allen) radiation belt
1968 William A. Anders, Ohio Eta '62 Apollo 8 astronaut; one of first three to circle the moon
1997 Andrew S. Grove, New York Eta '60 developed the power and potential of PC microchips
1999 Jeffrey P. Bezos, New Jersey Delta '86 entrepreneur and leader in on-line marketing; founder of Amazon.com
