Guidelines for using Facebook to Contact Candidates

  • Discuss strategy for using Facebook with chapter officers and advisors.
    • Have a plan.
    • Start a group and decide on group manager(s).

  • Include ‘Tau Beta Pi’ and your chapter/university in the Group Name.

  • Group Type should be “Student Groups; Clubs & Societies.”

  • Be sure to keep your description current and meaningful.

  • Give location of group.

  • When uploading a picture for the group, be sure the image is approved, if a
    Tau Beta Pi image, and not offensive.

  • It is important to decide whether the group will be ‘open’ or ‘closed’.
    • If the group is ‘open’ periodic checking/verification/purging, of group members will be necessary.
    • If ‘closed’ manager of group will need to be prompt in checking and approving/denying membership into the group.

  • You can invite current members of your chapter to join the group.

  • Do not invite friends that are not members and do not plan on becoming candidates to join.

  • Facebook is a very useful communication tool and a great resource for reaching out to Tau Beta Pi candidates. As with everything you do, remember that you are representing the 500,000-plus members of Tau Beta Pi.
