"Get Personal"
Important Information!
Membership is the MOST important function of a Tau Beta Pi chapter!! This is how we 'mark in a fitting manner ...'
Consider personal invitations for candidates and electees!
Don't take a lack of response at face value. FOLLOW UP!!
The Challenge
The number of students not considered for membership due to a lack of interest is approaching 60%.
Most of these students are listed as 'Did Not Reply' to the Chapter's invitation.
A lack of response should NOT be taken at face value. It is more likely the invitation was not received.
The solution: personally deliver the invitation or follow up on any invitations sent via email or USPS.
Here are some suggestions:
Get personal - contact each candidate and electee in person. Break up the list amongst chapter members to make it more manageable.
Follow up - don't accept a failure to respond at face value. Mail, whether electronic or snail, doesn't always reach the intended recipient.
Use Facebook to communicate with candidates, electees and members. Click
here
for info.
Ask your dean to send a letter to candidates and/or electees. (Click
here
for sample).
A letter from the dean to student's parents works as well. (Click

for sample).
Publicize your new members! Send a
news release
, take out an ad in the campus or local newspaper or hang a poster.
Don't forget to include the appropriate brochure (click
